Suttell Strong

Our family is starting this page for Kirk and Bunny Suttell. Kirk has been a practicing Prosthodontist in St. Petersburg, Florida for over 30 years. Bunny is a Registered Nurse, who spent much of her nursing years working in the intensive care units at Bayfront Medical Center and St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. After many years of devoting her time to inpatient nursing, she transitioned to managing Kirk’s Dental office, where she provided even more of her love and devotion to the patients of their practice as well as to their three children Lauren, Nicholas, and Marissa.

On May 28, 2014, Kirk was diagnosed with Stage IV Adenocarcinoma of the lung with diffuse metastasis. This came as complete shock and emotional insult to the Suttell Family since Kirk has maintained a very healthy and tobacco free life without any other pressing medical conditions. He has completed palliative radiation treatments to improve pain control, secondary to metastatic bone lesions and begun chemotherapy in hopes of prolonging his prognosis of 14-16 months.

On Thursday, July 17 2014, this family suffered an even greater pain that no one could imagine would ever be possible.
Bunny went into cardiac arrest in their home just several hours after Kirk returned home from his first Chemotherapy session. Due to the lack of oxygen and blood flow to her brain, Bunny suffered severe anoxic brain injury causing unrelenting seizure activity and has remained in Cardiac ICU at St. Anthony’s Hospital intubated and unresponsive ever since.
Despite all the aggressive efforts made by the intensive care physicians, neurologist, and profound nursing support, her condition has not improved and has continued to worsen with increasing seizure activity.
Along with the recommendations of her physicians, the family has made the decision to allow for comfort measures and unconditional love and so that God can further carry her through until we can all be together with her again in Heaven. Medical care will be withdrawn this week.

Through all of these grave events over the last few months, The Suttell family remains strong by putting their faith in God so that his Ultimate Will can be done.
There have been significant transitions made by family members which only add to the amount of expenses they face together with both Bunny’s Hospitalization and Kirk’s cancer treatment. There are specific chemotherapy agents Kirk is receiving that are not all covered by his insurance in addition to the daily living expenses required to keep this family afloat. Kirk is in the process of trying to sell his dental practice and it has been recommended that he no longer work given his prognosis. Lauren and Marissa have taken unpaid family medical leave from their jobs to assist with his care, and Nicholas has returned home from his Engineering graduate program at Florida State University and will take the fall semester to be with his family.
Any and every donation, no matter the size, will be greatly appreciated and put to use. Thank you all so very much for your thoughts, prayers, and donations.
