Thailand Study Abroad Trip

My name is Caitlyn Abshire and I attend Sam Houston State Univeristy School of Nursing. I am in my senior year of recieving my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and obtaining my RN license. I have always had a huge passion for nursing and pediatrics. After loosing my mom to cancer two years ago, I have focused my goal of working as a pediatric chemotherapy nurse. I have always dreamed of having the opprotunity to experience the beautiful land of Thailand. I was blessed that my school is conducting a study abroad trip to explore the culture and healthcare of Thailand this December. Counting for some of my nursing credit hours, I will be learning the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of how health is viewed and diseases are treated by hospital and clinical observations, home visits with nurses, visits to a community health center, and observation in a Hill Tribe clinic. Some of the specific lectures recieved will include Eastern medicine, herbal medicine, Thai massage, Buddhist beliefs related to health, and the Thai healthcare delivery system. This trip would not only give me a great outlook on culture but also an amazing experience that I can forever apply to my profession.
