Teri Loryn: A Broad in Thailand

My name is Teri and I am a full-time adult student with the opportunity to study abroad for a semester through Webster University-Thailand. I'm so excited about this opportunity, so nervous...and so broke. Recently I found out that the financial aid I received, the scholarship money I've earned, and the meager savings I've been able to accrue are only covering housing and tuition, leaving me hardly anything to live on for the 4 months I will be away. I'm set to depart on August 18th. I know this is down to the wire, but I just can't do this alone.
Like a lot of people, I've been living on the hamster wheel of working and working to just get by, survive. I'm going to school fulltime to change my future, but the present is still a struggle. My son turned 18 years-old in June and this is the perfect time for me to travel for study and growth. I don't want to say that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity (just in case this doesn't happen now, I don't want to hex myself), but this is something grand, life changing and I don't know how I would abe able to do something like this without school and your help.
A part of me worries that attempting to live abroad is out of my league and over my head. But a bigger part of me wants to believe that I can do this-I can live alone for the first time in my life; I can travel safely, meeting people of color in a different country, exchanging ideas and learning about a culture new to me; I can become a global citizen.
I'm asking for help to raise $2000.00 to supplement the cost of food, utilites,daily traveling/cleaning fees, and my student visa renewal while I'm in Thailand. I've already resigned myself to the fact that I can't afford to take excursions or trips while I'm there, and that is perfectly OK. This trip is big enough itself. There will be so much to see and so many people to meet in Cha-Am, Hua Hin, and the students from across the world that are studying at Webster University.
