The Utah Wind Symphony (UWS), the premiere wind and percussion ensemble from the state of Utah, has been invited to perform at the annual Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic this December in Chicago, Illinois. The Midwest Clinic is known worldwide as the premiere conference that seeks to help educators and musicians of all skill levels advance to the next level of their careers. The Utah Wind Symphony is the only adult community band from the United States to be selected to perform this year at the convention. It is an honor to be selected and the Symphony is thrilled to showcase its talent – with the assistance from supportive donors.
UWS consists of musicians and staff who, for the love of music and the performing arts, donate their time and talent in rehearsals, concerts and educational outreach in the community. UWS musicians include dedicated musicians such as local middle school band directors and high school band directors as well as freelance musicians from Utah County and the Salt Lake Valley.
UWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Funds are provided solely by private donations, grants, and ticket sales. Performing at the annual Midwest Clinic is an honor – one that all instrumental ensembles throughout the country endeavor to attain. Although the enthusiastic and devoted support is greatly appreciated and covers normal yearly operating costs, an undertaking such as performing at the annual Midwest Clinic is one the Wind Symphony cannot achieve on its own and is asking for the continued or first-time support of those with vested interests.
One of the primary goals of the UWS is to provide support to the growth and development of music offerings in Utah. It is a priority of all UWS members to make monetary and in-kind donations to various activities throughout the Utah music community. One of these avenues is a program that specializes in getting instruments in the hands of young students - Sistema Utah.
20% of each donation made will be used to help purchase instruments for Sistema Utah. Sistema Utah is a non-profit music program based on the El Sistema model founded by Dr. Abreu in Venezuela. Sistema Utah seeks to use music as the means of improving the lives of children in Utah and their families. Sistema Utah is offered in conjunction with the American Preparatory Academy campuses throughout the Salt Lake region.
