Un aiuto per sconfiggere il Cancro. Help to defeat cancer. Salve, mi chiamo Lucia ho 31 anni e voglio raccontarvi la storia di Emanuele, il mio compagno, che di anni ne ha 38. Una storia cominciata in un giorno di festa che per noi da quel momento ha assunto un significato molto diverso. Il 25 dicembre del 2019, appena poche settimane fa, eravamo come ogni Natale venuti in Puglia per passare le vacanze con la mia famiglia. Emanuele era stato male tutta la giornata con quella che sembrava essere una colica. Pensando non fosse nulla di grave, prese delle medicine per il dolore, ma nulla mutava. Arrivata la sera e non vedendo miglioramenti ci recammo al pronto soccorso. Dopo ore di attesa riusciamo a fare un'ecografia, il dottore riscontrando delle anomalie ci dice senza mezzi termini, che qualcosa non quadra, e ci prenota una tac d'urgenza. Li ci dicono le parole che non avremmo voluto mai sentire... Emanuele ha un tumore di circa 15 centimetri che si è formato sul tessuto retro peritoneale, colpendo i linfonodi. Il cancro sta comprimendo sia la vena ché l'uretere del rene destro, crescendo tutto in torno all’ aorta e alla safena. E’ un tumore che non da sintomi se non quando è troppo tardi, in parole povere una colica ha salvato la vita al mio compagno. Da lì è stato tutto un turbine velocissimo di visite, esami e colloqui con i medici. Ci sono stati anche alcuni giorni di ricovero, che ci hanno fatto capire l'estrema gravità della situazione. Fra pochissimi giorni Emanuele si dovrà sottoporre ad un piccolo intervento per mettere uno stent, che servirà per permettere al rene di affrontare la chemioterapia - rene che abbiamo scoperto  essere in idronefrosi di quarto grado a causa della massa che lo comprime, e che potrebbe portare velocemente verso un infarto dello stesso. Emanuele ed io siamo due professionisti che lavorano in maniera autonoma. Ci troviamo ad affrontare un ostacolo che non auguro a nessuno. La chemio sarà cinque giorni a settimana, non permettendo ad Emanuele di lavorare ed io stessa potrò lavorare molto meno, perché dovrò occuparmi di lui. Come sapete un libero professionista non ha la possibilità di prendersi giorni di malattia, e questo sta causando alle nostre già precarie finanze un grave problema. Le nostre famiglie purtroppo non ci possono aiutare economicamente, e per un cavillo legale non possiamo fare richiesta per una pensione. La domanda richiede una biopsia che non é eseguibile visto il coinvolgimento dell’aorta nella massa, il rischio per Emanuele di emorragia durante la biopsia è troppo alto. Un ciclo di chemio dura tre mesi, ma ad ora, viste le dimensioni del cancro, non sappiamo quanto ci potrà volere, forse un anno, forse due. Siamo soli ma siamo insieme. So che ne usciremo vincitori e che questa sarà una prova che ci renderà persone migliori. Umilmente vi chiedo aiuto, dal profondo del cuore, per affrontare questa battaglia perché il cancro non può e non deve batterci. Hi, my name is Lucia, my Age Is 31 Years old, and I want to tell you the story of Emanuele my partner, who is 38 years old. A story that began on a day of celebration which for us has since taken on a very different meaning. It was December 25th, 2019, just a few weeks ago, like every Christmas we came to Puglia to spend the holidays with my parents. Emanuele had been unwell all day with what appeared to be colic. He took some medicines, thinking it would pass; however, by the evening his condition was getting worse and I finally convinced him to go to the emergency room. After hours of patience, an ultrasound was done. The doctor saw some anomalies and tells us that something was wrong, booking Emanuele for an emergency scan. At that point, we hear the words that nobody wants to hear… Emanuele has a tumour of about 15 centimetres that has formed on the retroperitoneal tissue, which is affecting the lymph nodes. It is obstructing both the vein and the ureter of the right kidney, growing all around the aorta and the saphenous vein. It is a tumour that does not give symptoms or only when it is too late. In short, colic saved my partner's life. From that moment, it has been a whirlwind of visits, exams and interviews with doctors. There have also been some days of hospitalization, which has forced us to reckon with the extreme gravity of the situation. In a few days, Emanuele will undergo a small operation to put a stent, which will allow his kidney to face chemotherapy – kidney that we discovered to be in fourth-degree hydronephrosis due to the mass that compresses it, and that could quickly lead the organ failure. Emanuele and I are two professionals who work independently, and we face an obstacle that I don't wish to anyone. The chemo will be five days a week and Emanuele will not be able to work. I myself will be able to work much less because I want and need to take care of him. As freelancers, we have no safety net and this loss of workdays is putting us into a very precarious financial situation. Unfortunately, our families cannot help us financially. And, for a legal quibble, we cannot apply for a pension as the paperwork a biopsy which cannot be done safely given the proximity to the aorta and the risk for Emanuele of haemorrhage during the biopsy is too high. A chemo cycle lasts about three months but now, given the size of cancer, we do not know how long it will take, maybe a year or two. We are alone but we are together. I know that we will emerge as winners and that this will be a test that will make us better people, but now I ask your help to face this battle because cancer cannot and must not beat us.
