Oh boy...I hate recapping! Stay positive...look at how far we've come...Ok, I'm alright. Ugh!
For those people out there that don't know Luke's story, it's one that flipped our world upside down & changed our whole life as we knew it! Luke had just turned 5 in the early summer of 2012, he had a year under his belt of an Autism diagnosis that drs were second guessing because of the progress he was making with his speech & other milestones! Luke is & always has been the heart of our family. He lit up whatever room he walked into with his infectious smile & the love & hugs he attacked you with! "Luke" actually means "light" which we didn't know until after his accident. On August 12th of that year, my husband (who is my hero) found Luke in our swimming pool. Unresponsive. And God knows what else. He administered CPR immediately & was rushed to our nearby hospital by our angels on earth neighbors who were there to help both my precious baby boy & my Prince Charming! They tried 3 times to bring Luke back to life & the final time, it worked. He was air lifted to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia & that became our home for the next 5 months! Luke suffered cardiac arrest & was oxygen deprived for an undetermined amount of time. (My husband guesses just mins but we truly don't know). When Luke got to our pool that day, he did things he's never been able to do before in his life! He never walked out our front door by himself before...he just couldn't do it...he was always nervous & couldn't figure out how to hold open the door, hold onto the frame, step down onto the landing, still hold the door, step onto the step, start to let the door go...etc....he unlocked our yard gate...he climbed up the deck steps, he unlocked our pool gate....& what I believe happened, fell in. But things that he never had been able to accomplish before, he did that day. We don't know why this happened, but God does...& He gave him back to us for a reason!!! Luke is an amazing boy. A fighter. A miracle. Luke lost almost everything as a result of his accident. We were in a whirlwind of wth just happened to our life for a good 2 months after the accident & honestly, still have them moments sometimes. I can't even begin to list the treatments, therapies, medications, drs, scans, tests, etc he had during our stay at chop. I can tell u that Luke regained his vision, he smiles, he laughs, he rolls over, & most of all, he still lights up a room!!!! He is our light! We seen how dark dark is without him & God gave us back our light! He is making baby steps of progress everyday & I have complete faith that we will get him back to walking, & hugging, & eating pancakes....everything a little 7yr old boy should be doing! He's used to working hard & he has it in him to do this! We just know it! We are determined to get him everything we possibly can to help him continue to progress & thrive... & embrace this 2nd chance at life!!! Go Team Luke! We love you!
