Louis, my five year old yorkie, has had a rapid buildup of fluid in his stomach that will be lethal if untreated.
A week ago, I noticed Louis', stomach getting larger and more solid, so I decided to take him to the vet. I expected to be told that he's just been eating too much and that I need to give him more exercise, but that wasn't the case. The vet told me that there is a clear fluid in Louis' tummy that shouldn't be there, and it is going to continue leaking unless we can find the cause of it. If the fluid keeps filling up inside Louis' belly, it will eventually swell and start putting pressure on his heart, lungs and other organs and will eventually kill him. Her guess was liver disease.
They suggested euthanasia if I can't afford treatment. I said no to putting him down. It is NOT his time. However, I am a college student living on my own in B.C. All of my money goes to my rent and groceries. My siblings all banded together and gave me $700 to test Louis' protein levels, drain some of the fluid from him, do some urine and stool tests, and get him some pain medication.
I got the call this morning telling me that what we've done so far is not enough. He needs more tests to figure out what the underlying issue is. The cost estimate for Louis is over $2500.
I am asking anyone that has extra money to please, please try and help my baby. He is only 5 years old, the funkiest and strangest dog you'll ever meet, and I really don't want his time to be cut short because of my financial situation. Even small
donations will help.
