Help Loserian's Family

Hello, I am fundraising for Loserian's family. Many of you knew Loserian as an excellent wildlife guide, a loving father and husband, a driven entrepreneur, a conservationist, a respected Maasai elder and an activist for education.

Loserian passed away quickly and unexpectedly on Wednesday the 10th of August, aged only 44. Leaving behind a wife, two young children, and a son in university.

Loserian was born in a traditional Maasai home in Endulen in Ngorongoro. He would walk to school every day for hours, passing lions, elephants and leopards, and would come to earn college degrees in wildlife management and accounting. He went on to work for the Pastoralist Council and as a wildlife guide, having grown up in the bush he had a natural talent surpassing anything I have ever seen in guiding.

My name is Jessika and I have known Loserian since 2011. In 2013 I lived in his home when I was doing my field research in anthropology on Maasai mobility practices. Loserian helped me as a research assistant and after graduating, I worked closely with Loserian organizing sustainable and inclusive safaris on Safarisource, with him running operations in Tanzania. Fond memories from fieldwork include our constant stopping if Loserian saw children herding goats on the plains or walking by the road when they should have been in school and Loserian making sure to learn who the parents were and to take steps to ensure they attend school.

I will always remember Loserian for being so kind-natured and social at the same time, so intelligent, so loving, and for recognizing hundreds of birds by their shadows.

Being so driven and caring, Loserian managed to build a home for his family and to keep his tour operating business afloat during the pandemic.

The day before he died, I had just booked him a safari and he was getting busy again. For him to die, just as the devastating effects of the pandemic are wearing off, is a huge blow to his family, relying primarily on tourism income.
