Help Us Save Sasha!

UPDATE 4 (8/1/14):
I am SO incredibly happy to announce that Sasha has been adopted by an amazing family!! She's as sweet as ever and is loving her new home and her new name... Mika! :)

Mika's new family will be bringing her back to the vet in a few days to have her stitches removed. With her silly puppy energy and sweet playfulness, you would never know that just last week her future was unsure. Mika is loving life to the extreme and is so very lucky that all of you took the time and effort out of your busy lives to care about her and help save her life.

We do still have vet bills to pay back and will continue to accept donations until our goal is reached. Please keep sharing Mika's story with friends and family. We couldn't have come this far without your help!

UPDATE 3 (7/26/14):
Sasha is out of the hospital and is doing really well! She’ll need 10-14 days of rest with limited activity before she goes back for a re-check. Until then, she’s enjoying cuddling up with soft blankets and chewing on yummy bones. Please continue to share Sasha’s story with friends and family. We are more than half way there and definitely couldn’t have done this without all of your help!!

UPDATE 2 (7/25/14):
Here's a picture sent over from Long Island Veterinary Specialists of Sasha and Dr. Grossbard, DVM, DACVS, the surgeon who saved her life!

UPDATE  (7/25/14):

Sasha is out of surgery and on her way to recovery!! The wonderful surgeons at Long Island Veterinary Specialists ( www.livs.org) were able to perform the surgery yesterday afternoon and it couldn't have gone better. As of now, Sasha is on schedule to be discharged tomorrow, and it looks like she won’t need follow-up surgery after all. These factors greatly reduce the overall costs, bringing us down to about $3500 between the surgery and incurred vet bills. As of 2pm today, we are more than 1/3 of the way there! Thank you SO much to everyone who has donated and shared Sasha’s story. We will continue to get the word out and together we will help save Sasha!

Help Us Save Sasha! (7/24/14):

On Saturday, July 19th, Sasha, a beautiful German Shepherd puppy was abandoned at Petco in Syosset, NY. My good friend Jackie took this sweet, friendly girl in to find her a new home, and immediately noticed a large lump on Sasha's tummy. Together, with help from friends, family, and co-workers, we have been taking care of Sasha and bringing her to see veterinarians all over Long Island and New Jersey to determine the seriousness of her condition.

It was initially determined that Sasha had an umbilical hernia, deemed by two different vets to be the largest umbilical hernia they have ever seen. Sasha's surgery was originally scheduled for Thursday, July 29th. Sadly, pre-surgery x-rays revealed a much more serious condition. We rushed Sasha to an emergency animal hospital where we were told that she has a Diaphragmatic Pericardial Hernia. In a normal case, the diaphragm is torn, allowing allowing the intestines to enter the chest cavity. In Sasha's case, the muscle isn't just torn but missing completely.

The surgeons at Long Island Veterinary Specialists agreed to perform the risky life-saving surgery where they will have to rebuild the muscle and tissue to form a diaphragm. They have estimated the cost of the surgery combined with other incurred vet bills to be upwards of $6,000, dependent on what they find when they are able to see inside.

Please help us raise the money to save this puppy's life. Every little bit gets us closer to giving Sasha the fresh start in life that she deserves.
