FCCB of Branford Youth Mission

The First Congregational Church of Branford Youth Mission program created an outreach  focused on national community assistance. We began this program in 2005, after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and other parts  of Louisiana. We travelled to Louisiana that first summer to help the people who had lost everything. Some of the people we helped were still unable  to live in their homes, as many as 10 months after the storm. Our group assisted in getting their homes back into livable standards.

Since that first trip, we have organized trips back to New Orleans and a variety of other locations  to aid those that need our help the most. Our philosophy is that our kids need to learn to give back. Our trips have two specific purposes in mind; to have an impact on the communities serviced and to teach the youth of Branford the life long lesson of the positive impact they can have on other people's lives.

The cost of the trip is funded by participant donation, various fundraisers and generous contributions from many individuals.  The cost of the trip is in excess of $70,000.  All the money raised goes towards the various costs related to the trip. We pay for transportation costs, housing expenses, van rentals to get to our work sites, supplies for our work sites and all our own food.

This year, we are organizing a group to travel to San Antonio, Texas at the end of June. We will be taking about 60 youth and 15 chaperones. We will be working with Habitat for Humanity. They will be celebrating their 40th anniversary and we will help them close in on their 1000 home. The homes that they build are built with the intention of giving families the opportunity to own their own home, that might not otherwise be able to afford one. The future home owners work along side us  to help complete their home. Habitat then offers them lessons on how to maintain their new home.

Any donations recieved will be added to our funding and help us to close the gap between participant donations and the actual costs of the trip.

Please understand that no amount is too small, or too big, for that matter and all donations are gratefully accepted with our thanks and appreciation.
