BYL Strategic Funding Campaign

Tax deductible
Dear Friends of Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse:

My name is Don Wilson, I started the BYL program in Bridgeport eleven years ago. To continue building on our strength, we are launching a strategic funding campaign to support our programs for fall 2019 through summer 2020. I am reaching out to give you the opportunity to participate in our life-changing program for the next year. My aim is to raise $125k to fully fund our programs so we can build on the successes our youth are achieving both on and off the athletic fields.

Funds raised will be used to:
1) recruit and compensate quality coaches
2) hire and mentor an operations manager
3) cover travel expenses for our youth players
4) recruit and compensate college prep, SAT, mental health, STEM advisors/practitioners 5) fund/supplement college visits
6) cover equipment needs

Bridgeport Youth Lacrosse Sports Academy (BYLSA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3). Our mission is to empower the youth of Bridgeport with self-confidence, discipline and skills necessary to succeed in sports and life.

BYLSA’s year-round, school-based, mind-body-spirit program provides academic intervention, behavioral support, mentoring, leadership training and sports instruction to students throughout the Bridgeport Public School system. We currently serve over 250 students in six elementary schools and hope to expand BYLSA into a city-wide program. BYLSA is the only program of its kind in Bridgeport that offers youth the chance to experience unique opportunities not offered in many inner city environments.

One of the many challenges impacting children in Bridgeport is youth violence. Youth violence is a complex social problem that requires a multifaceted approach of prevention, intervention, enforcement and social- emotional development. For these reasons, BYLSA has partnered with other long-standing nonprofits that work with children in Bridgeport to develop a plan focused on reducing youth violence.

Our partners include:
* Greater Bridgeport STEM/STEAM Ecosystem
* ACCESS Educational Services
* MUCK MUDD
* Discovery Museum
* The Bridgeport Public School (BPS) system,
* Lighthouse- BPS After-school Program,
* Bridgeport Police Department Community Service Division,
* P.I.T.S Peace in the Streets, *Board of Education,
* LifeBridge Academy,
* Jewels of Joy Counseling,
* School Resource Officers
* and more to come.

In order to continue on our dream, we need funding. We've done all the work necessary to be in a good place to serve the youth of Bridgeport (our future!), but it does take resources to continue the mission, and that's where YOU come in. You "write the check", and we continue our important work. And if you want to do even more than secure a donation, and want to get personally involved, of course we welcome that too!

And a final note:  if you need more information to make your decision, don't hesitate to call me.  If you are a company deciding whether to make a sizable donation but need to understand better what's involved, contact me to set up a meeting and I'd be glad to come to your place of business to meet one on one.

Thank you,
Don Wilson
