In May of 2016, Terri was diagnosed with advanced metastatic breast cancer that had spread to her spine and bones; specifically, to her ribs. It was HR-positive times three. She first had to have surgery to stabilize her spine. Only then was she able to start chemo treatments.The monthly treatments have taken a toll on her health, but she continues to fight for the sake of others; namely, for her parents. Her mother has suffered a massive stroke and is now in a nursing home. The family is also facing a financial burden in that regard.
Terri hasn't been able to return to work since her diagnosis in May 2016. She was able to sign up for Cobra insurance to ensure that she had medical coverage, and she was in and out of the hospital with each round of chemo. Responsibly, she arranged for automated withdrawal of payments to avoid any late payments or lapses during her illness. In spite of her conscientiousness, she was informed this past February that she would no longer be covered by Cobra. Upon investigation, she discovered that they had increased her premium in September but never informed her of the increase. Yet, they continued to withdraw payments in the ‘old’ amount of money. She was then informed that her Cobra was canceled. She hired a lawyer to appeal the decision but recently found out that her claim was denied. She is desperate for funds to cover monthly chemo treatments until she is eligible for Medicare Disability in November of 2018. For this reason, I've decided to start a Go Fund Me page to help her continue her fight for life. MONTHLY TREATMENTS Are CRUCIAL TO SURVIVAL.
The cost of her chemo treatments is about $10,000-$15,000 a month and her prescriptions cost around $1,000. To ease this ruinous financial burden and to help her continue her treatments, she needs around $50,000.
