Dawn's Journey thru Chemo

Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends of Dawn Cohen, A couple of weeks ago Dawn was admitted to Henry Mayo Hospital when blood work showed she had an abnormally high white cell count. Specialized testing confirmed a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was transferred to USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center where she has been receiving care specific to her disease.  It has been intense. She has had three bone marrow biopsies, CAT scans, MRI of her head, multiple x-rays and her first round of chemo. She then had a procedure that infused chemo directly into her spinal fluid. She has been receiving ongoing blood and platelet transfusions.  Dawn has been a fighter though this , it has been the battle of her life, this unexpected life-threatening disease. She is a single mother to three boys, was working as a private chef preparing healthy meals for clients and doing home care assistance before she got sick. Her youngest son, Collin, has Asperger's Syndrome and is in specialized schooling. He is training in Tae Kwon Do three afternoons a week which gives him confidence and a healthy outlet. Matt, a freshman in high school, is a Young Marine and in the Air Force ROTC program at his school. Jeremiah is a college student who works part time and is now living back home to help out his brothers and mom. They no longer have her income and their mom is very sick. They are brave but they are scared.  Her dad, Joel, has been helping out as much as possible but is himself recovering from back surgery to remove fragments of splintered vertebrae that broke off after a severe fall that also gave him a concussion and tore his ear almost completely off. His health is fragile and he can no longer work.  Her sister Jenny and Jenny's husband Rob have put their own lives on hold and moved into Dawn's to help out. Family is doing everything possible to help out. Although she does have insurance coverage during her hospital stay, once it is determined that she can be discharged as an outpatient, she will have to find housing close to Norris Hospital as she will be returning on a regular basis for some time. She is needing help in the form of financial assistance along with your prayers. There will be expensive medical costs not covered by insurance, treatments and dietary needs as well. Dawn has always been a healthy, vibrant person with a good heart. She is a fierce mother and has always put her boys ahead of herself. Now she needs to fight for herself and focus on her wellness and peace of mind. Please reach down into your hearts and help her with your kindness and generosity. No contribution is too little. Thanking you in advance for your help while she is on this difficult journey.
