Schrodinger's Vet Bills

Donation protected
If you don't know our story: I rescued Schrodinger from a less than ideal environment when he was just a kitten and fit in a teacup. He's about four now and he's been my first mate ever since. I don't generally feel comfortable accepting money or help from friends, let alone strangers, but when it comes to the well-being of my cat I need to graciously accept what's being offered. At the recommendation of a few close friends I'm setting up this fund for the little guy so I can have the option of getting surgery for his broken leg, or at the least covering some of his current vet bills (for the xrays, pain medications, vet exam, fluids and etc) which right now totals about $400.

Last week when I was out of town, my cat broke his leg. I don't know how or when-- since I was out of town-- but we guess about three days. It's not particularly normal for cats to just fall like this, but he's also got a busted lip and scrapes on his pads, so we guess it must have been pretty bad, but even though he had someone in the house with him, no one saw it happen.

At first we thought it was dislocated since it was hanging limp, but after taking xrays with my vet, we realized it was completely snapped. The break is too close to his elbow joint to have set and cast (or splinted). My two options are to let him heal naturally or to get surgery.

Healing naturally will involve him being on pain medication for 1-3 months and keeping him in a quiet place without much to jump on so he has as little opportunity as possible to reinjure himself. We don't know how well it'll heal, or if he'll experience any long term pain.

Surgery has a higher likelihood of healing and letting him retain mobility in the leg, but involes complications and is far more expensive. It's going to run upwards of $1500 and still involve healing time, due to having pins in his leg, but generally this is the better way to go.

No one should be feel obligated to donate here, but I do really appreciate the people who want to help. But I also feel completely comfortable with people who'd prefer a trade. I can knit, and make cosplay props or costumes, I do a lot of crafts, and sew a bit. I have an etsy at (etsy.com/shop/underreigns) but if you would like something that isn't listed, please let me know and I'd love to work something out.
