Strength for McKenzie

On June 25th We received a text from our best friend Stacy Dorsagno Moore that her daughter, McKenzie, had a seizure out of no where and they were at St. Luke's. McKenzie was laying down on the floor and Stacy saw her body flinching.  When Stacy yelled Mckenzie's name, she didn't respond. Yet her body continued to flinch. When Stacy went to turn McKenzie over, she found her baby girl in a full blown seizure. The CT Scan showed a small mass on her brain and they were  waiting for an ambulance to be transported to Syracuse Hospital for more testing. We could only imagine how scared they both were. You automatically think the worst but pray for the best. I got to the hospital and the tears in Stacy's eyes swelled. I could hear the fear in her voice. After testing in Syracuse, they diagnosed it as Cavernoma. Cavernoma is a vascular malformation where blood vessels intertwine and form a mass (in Mckenzie's case) on the brain. Dr. said it's been there a while and what must have happened was it had a microburst and bleed which caused the seizure. Dr. said it would be best to operate to remove the mass on Mckenzie's brain. "Brain Surgery" not what Stacy wanted to hear but if you know McKenzie, you know dancing is her passion and a HUGE part of who she is. She's a captivating and magnificent dancer!! Having this surgery means no seizures and no more meds. There are risks as in any surgery. The mass is located on the part of the brain that controls her speech, right side movement and range of motion. Recovery time is about 3 months.
