Uganda Mission Trip

Donation protected
In January 2015, my sister Jennifer and I will be traveling to Uganda for two weeks with Compassion International (www.compassion.com), a Christian ministry that matches impoverished children with sponsors. Through a monthly sponsorship, the child is provided education, healthcare, and other life-skill training that would not have been readily available to them. Sponsors are also able to build a personal and emotional relationship with their child by frequently communicating with their child through letters.

I began sponsoring Emmanuel in January 2014. He is four years old and lives in a small village 13 miles northeast of Kampala, Uganda. He enjoys running, singing, and playing with his friend John. He lives with his mother, father, and nine year old sister. Both of his parents are plantation workers and make the equivalent of $8 USD a month.

Writing and receiving letters from Emmanuel has brought me such joy this year. When the opportunity to visit him presented itself, I knew I could not pass it up. I will get to visit with Emmanuel and see up close how my sponsorship has made a difference in his life.
For Jennifer, going to Uganda with Compassion will be an amazing opportunity before she begins college in 2016. She is a prospective education major and working with children is a passion of hers. This opportunity to work with impoverished children will be a unique experience she will carry with her for years to come.

Throughout the trip, we will be traveling to centers that work with sponsored children. Some of these include the Child Survival program, which is in a slum in Kampala, and the Leadership Development program, which works with University-aged young adults. We will see first-hand the difference sponsorship makes for young children and their families and what that looks like for graduates of the program.

This is such an amazing opportunity, and one that I am so glad I will get to share with my sister.

Please consider donating to our trip. No amount is too small! We are also accepting items such as art supplies, puzzles, or games to bring with us on our trip to Uganda to provide for other kids like Emmanuel. Please keep in mind that any donations must be easy to transport in a suitcase!
