Help Abdul Get to Graduate School!

My name is Abdul B. Abad, and I will be pursuing a Master’s degree in Higher Education at the University of Connecticut this Fall. I nearly dropped out of my undergraduate institution this past Spring semester because of financial difficulties, but fortunately I graduated. I also got into the University of Connecticut with full funding, so I thought my last semester as an undergraduate would be the last time I would experience financial difficulties. Even though my financial package includes a tuition waiver and a wonderful stipend in exchange for work I will be doing for my assistantship, I have been unable to acquire money to cover my moving expenses (deposit and rent for a room as well as food) from New Jersey to Connecticut until I receive my first paycheck.

My parents are both on disability and struggle to make ends meet, so while they would love to help me, it is a financial impossibility. I have applied for credit cards and also been denied. I have also attempted to get loans and been denied, and any loan I could be approved for will not be credited to my account until the Fall (early September). This is a problem because I need to be in Connecticut in early August to start my job and classes. I am the first person in my family to obtain a Bachelor’s degree, and I hope to be the first in my family to obtain a Master’s degree.

Anyone who knows me knows that it is difficult for me to ask for help, especially for financial assistance, but I have tried hard to make my travel to Connecticut a reality to no avail. Please donate what you can to help me get to the University of Connecticut so I can get one step closer to helping students for a living.
