BUY THE BLOCK PARTY 2 needs your support!!!!

Buy the Block Party 2 seeks to unite the Roxbury community through arts and entertainment, all while spurring economic development for Nubian Square businesses and women- and Black-owned micro-businesses. The event acknowledges the power and importance of circulating the Black dollar in Black communities of color as a means to support economic opportunity and wealth creation. Buy the Block Party 2 will expand on last year’s highly successful inaugural event, attended by hundreds of Roxbury and City of Boston residents seeking to celebrate the City’s historic Black commercial district. It remains visible through the Black Lives Matter street mural along Washington Street.
The second annual Buy the Block will expand upon the first, extending the length of the celebration from one to three days. The event, which will occur during Black Music Month, has already secured activist and rapper KRS-One to provide live entertainment and a conversation about wealth creation, economic empowerment and community ownership; Live performances by local artists will happen in celebration of Black Music Month in addition to an art walk—

This funding campaign will allow Black Market and MPDC to unlock a $25,000 matching award from Mass Development, through the Commonwealth Places Initiative. This event is a significant expansion of the 2021 one-day Buy the Block Party event and we are hopeful that Commonwealth Places funding will be a key catalyst for additional support and investment from our community! By contributing to this campaign, your donation will help pay for:

-event rentals and equipment costs
-fees for local Black artists and performers
-costs associated with creating new public art and hosting community symposium, meet & greet and Block Party event.
-Scholarships to help subsidize tabling costs for local Black and Brown entrepreneurs and micro-businesses
