Buy New York a Cup Help Ginjan reopen, and turn a hard moment into an act of hospitality. Everything Ginjan has become was made possible by people who walked through our doors, brought a friend, told someone about us, ordered again, and made our cafés part of their lives. We have never taken that for granted. The past several months have tested us in ways we could not have anticipated. First, our Brooklyn café was broken into. A few months later, a car crashed into the storefront, causing enough damage that the building was placed under a vacate order. We cannot reopen Brooklyn until repairs are completed and a structural engineer certifies the space as safe.

Then our Harlem café had to close. More than $12,000 in outstanding city fines are blocking us from renewing our operating permit. The permit itself costs $285. We are not allowed to pay the $285 until the $12,000 is settled. That has created a brutal loop. We need to reopen to earn the money required to reopen. But we need the money before we are allowed to reopen. Ginjan was built around hospitality. We are used to being the people who welcome, serve, and take care of others. Asking for help does not come naturally to us. So we asked ourselves a simple question: can we ask for help in a way that still feels like Ginjan? We decided to begin by giving. We are committing to serve 1,000 cups of Ginjan coffee to New Yorkers, free. And we are inviting the community that made this possible, whether you are in New York or anywhere else in the world, to join us by buying the next cup for a stranger. For every $5 contributed, we will add one more cup beyond the 1,000 we have already promised.

If you would rather support us another way, you can buy a bag of Ginjan coffee for yourself or send one to someone you love. Our first milestone is $12,285. Reaching it pays the most urgent fines and the permit fee, gets Harlem back on the path to reopening, brings our team back, and lets us start earning again. From there we can work through the rest of these challenges while moving instead of standing still. Anything raised beyond that goes to the structural engineering and renovation work in Brooklyn, so we can restore both cafés and rebuild the stability these closures took away. And if this community carries us past getting both doors open, we will not stop there. We will put that support toward what Ginjan was built to do: serve more people, create more jobs, and bring the warmth and generosity of African hospitality to more neighborhoods. Maybe a campaign to reopen two cafés can help build the next one. We are not asking our community to carry Ginjan indefinitely. We are asking for help getting our doors open so we can get back to carrying our share: working, serving, employing people, and welcoming New York in. Help us reopen. Help us buy New York a cup of coffee. We will begin with 1,000 cups. First Harlem. Then Brooklyn. And if New York carries us farther, maybe the next Ginjan too. Let's see how far the village can carry it.
