Hi Everyone! I am writing to you unbeknownst to my dearest grandmother Kathryn Minnick (Gigi) who happens to live with me and my family in Las Vegas. My story dates back to a seemingly innocent teeth cleaning last spring, when I suggested maybe it was time for Gigi to see a dentist (it had been a little while since her last visit due to no dental insurance).
Well, at that appointment, the dentist discovered that Gigi needs a brand-new set of teeth, or dentures, and quick! After lots of looking into options (mobile dental units, dental school, her moving back to CA briefly, etc., etc.) and getting a second opinion to ensure the procedure was needed, she has come to the decision to get her new pearly whites locally at a dentist's office where she feels very comfortable undergoing this scary new-teeth journey. Her surgery to remove her teeth is scheduled for October 26, 2017.
This decision has brought much comfort to Gigi. However, it will also leave her in debt - the unfortunate part. She has one year to pay off the debt no interest, but that would be more than $200 a month on her $900-a-month fixed income. The second year she would pay interest. (The procedure will cost $3,200.)
That's where you come in! Using gofundme, I want to raise enough to pay for half (or more!) of the procedure. I thought we could do this by having people "buy" her new teeth! While the dentist saved about eight teeth, she will need dentures for the rest. So that means $75 would buy one beautiful new tooth for Gigi. Of course, feel free to buy more than one tooth! Or, a portion of a tooth! Every bit helps. I’m hoping to present her with her “new teeth” money on October 25, 2017, and videotape the presentation for all to see.
In addition, I also understand not everyone can contribute money. Another way to lift Gigi's spirits during this time is an old-fashioned card, which we all know she loves. Let her know you are thinking about her and that will lift her spirits tremendously!
