As you may have heard, Chrystal and Toni closed their operation at the Essex Ice Cream Café on Sunday, June 12th. Maybe you enjoyed Toni’s delicious French toast or Eggs Benedicts, Chrystal’s infectious company, or were delighted to see another small business spring up in our community. A note from Chrystal:

Toni and I successfully operated the food truck last year at the Hub on the Hill. Since it was a seasonal gig, we closed up in October 2021. We were then excited to move our operation to the Essex Ice Cream Cafe in December 2021. I feel it, too, has been a success with the community, and I know many have enjoyed a home-cooked meal in the dining room and the opportunity to chat with friends and neighbors. The cafe was a dream come true and we loved seeing everyone’s smiling faces and hearing their encouragement.

Unfortunately, this location is not viable for us. I’d rather not dwell on why, but I will say that we gave it our all and are heartbroken to be leaving.

Many people have asked what our plans are, and after much thought and suggestions from friends and neighbors, we’ve decided to purchase a food truck. This lower-overhead option will allow us to follow our passion for cooking and serving great food. Using a food truck as a base, we plan to offer farm-to-table dinners, weekend brunches in Essex, catered events, and community meals on our farm. Some say when one door closes, another opens, and we trust that this new door will open to a business sparked and supported by this town and our love and passion for good food and community.
