Uganda Water Project

Community Borehole Drilling at Butenga, Uganda

Dear Friends,

As you may know, I've just returned from a trip to Uganda where myself and my partner Martin launched a community farming project. The aim of the project is to provide rural families with land to farm and to ensure a fair price for their yield.

Furthermore, the profits from this project will be reinvested into community resource development initiative such as building a school and healthcare centre on our land.

The first step is ensuring a permanent source of clean drinking water for the local people. Currently, parents send children as young as 6 years old on a 10km round-trip to fetch water from the nearest well. These children carry a full jerry can of water back on their heads.

During my visit, we conducted a geophysical survey on our land and confirmed a natural source of water located in rock fractures at a depth of 120 meters. This means that by drilling a borehole and installing a solar pump and 10,000-litre tank, we can ensure a permanent source of water for the local community.

I'm asking for your help.

The cost of the borehole comes to approximately 60 million Ugandan Shillings (Eur 13,500). I've already signed the contract and the work is due to begin on Monday. If you can contribute towards this, you'll change the lives of over 100 families forever.

My plan is to erect a plaque at the site of the borehole and put the names of every person who contributes to this project there. When I go back in February, we'll send photos of the villagers saying a huge "thank you" to everyone who gave them clean, safe drinking water.
