Dear Friends,
As some of you know, and to those who do not, my 16 year old daughter, who already has the chronic illness Elhers Danlos Syndrome, was assaulted in May. This assault was much worse than first thought, leaving her with post traumatic issues such as depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, agoraphobia, sleeplessness, and she has gone from 102lbs to 86lbs.
The beating was so bad that she continues to suffer from neurological damage that has caused her to lose most of the feeling on the right side of her body, and some loss of feeling on her left. She has post-concussion syndrome, hematoma, and severe depression. It has also exacerbated her illness, causing much more back and hip pain that may have lifelong effects.
This happened at school, while under an Individual Health Plan constructed by the school staff, and medical specialists. With the staffs’ knowledge that she was repeatedly threatened, and the assailants having directly told staff that they were going to hurt her the Friday before the assault, nothing was done to protect her. She will not be able to attend school in this district.
We have no choice but to move immediately, in order to let the healing begin, and to get her and her sister enrolled into their new school in time for the next school year.
Moving will give her the opportunity to move forward in a new town, at a new school, where she has the chance to have as much of a healthy teen, and high school life as possible. She wishes to make new friends and enjoy a social life despite her pre-existing health conditions and her post assault conditions, of which we have high hopes that they will improve both emotionally and physically.
Anyone who knows her, knows that she has been so strong, but this experience has all but broken her in so many ways. I vow to do whatever it takes to bring her back to her previous, strong, independent, loving self.
I have put in our 30 day notice and we have put all of our possessions up on all of the “for sale” sites. As grateful as we are to the one person who has bought a few of our things, it has proven that this income will only be enough to feed us for this month. We need your help. We have less than 28 days to come up with money for moving expenses.
I still must find a place to move, but cannot secure it without paying:
The application fee, rent, security deposit, and possible management fees.
Most likely, we will be moving out of state. We are getting rid of as much as possible to save money on movers, and a large U-Haul and gas bill, but will need to rent a trailer to haul the items we will have left, pay a deposit for the trailer, plus gas. We will need food, deposit for utilities, furniture, and hopefully minimal, extras.
Creating this page for someone else is a breeze, when it is myself asking for something….that is a hard pill to swallow. When it comes to my girls I have no choice but to push that feeling aside and be raw, exposed, real, and tell this to you from my heart. We truly need this, more than you all could know.
I want to thank you all for taking the time to read this. You are our family. I started to write it so many times and just couldn’t find the words. I am hoping that I did well. If any of you think I should make changes, please let me know. I welcome any advice. They say that the more you share this post with others, the more chances we have of meeting something close to our goal. I am making my goal high because I have no idea what to expect in our future. I know that you all have your struggles too, which makes this even more difficult, so please give what you can without taking away from you and yours.
