Support the Bussens—8beats Team Members in Need

This year so far has been hard on the Bussens.

In January, Therese's health crashed hard and fast. In February her beloved sister committed suicide.

The Catholic Creatives and 8beats Movie family invites you to rally with us to help the Bussens cover medical and caretaking expenses during this season.

Grieving such loss is not a simple process, and Therese's health journey isn’t much easier. Recently, she did receive a diagnosis, making way for getting treatment! The diagnosis is post-viral fatigue syndrome, which is essentially, chronic fatigue syndrome triggered by a virus, as well as autoimmune issues.

Therese has been bedridden since December—unable to get her own meals or even shower. A little progress here and there, yet most days look the same.

Brett has taken on the equally hard role of sole caretaker. He farms, cares for Therese, the house, and Lottie - all of that, all of the time. They’ve even had to hire someone to come over part-time to help when Brett is working. Their lives revolve around just trying to take care of basic necessities.

From Therese:
“Chronic fatigue is the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced. It’s like having the worst flu of your life, with body aches and extreme fatigue that pins you to your bed, but it never goes away. Most of traditional medicine has no clue about it and there’s no standard treatment. I’ve found help from an integrative doctor, a strict diet and some mind-body programs...and it will get better. But it could take years and what could help, or when it will get better is an unknown. Life as a healthy person as I knew it is over...and could be for a long while.

Every day feels like survival for us, me trying to physically get through the day, and Brett trying to take care of everyone. And again, I am not sharing this to get sympathy or pity - but because we’re often asked and we don’t know how to answer. And then sometimes people are left to form their own opinions about what our life is like.

Normally I have something hopeful to say. We do have hope. But right now for our family, it is hard to hold onto. We are so grateful for those who help us physically, emotionally and spiritually. Those that offer helping hands, and especially for those that pray. Especially being in a season where we can’t really pray. Life is a prayer at the moment. We love you and thank you.”
