Bushelcraft Farm Hoophouse and Well Water Project

Hi, my name is Jon Zirkle, and I'm fundraising for Bushelcraft Farm, a small educational farm in Elkhart, IN with significant resource needs. I co-founded this farm beginning in 2020, and it's amazing what we've accomplished despite a pandemic, not owning land, and wild weather events the past two years. At present, our farm needs a power source to get well water to the field and needs to put a down payment on a hoophouse that must be completed by September 2022. Prices have gone up!  Of course that's not all we need. We also need to pay for land rent, outdoor portable toilets, other overhead costs, and the bill for our accountant to file our annual taxes. But at the moment, our main focus is securing funding for a hoophouse and powering the well.

 

Your contributions can make it possible to raise high-quality food for our community through food pantry donations and our community-supported agriculture (CSA) program. In 2021, we had access to well water, but lacked the funds to power the well. It was a very challenging year without the tools and resources we needed to thrive.

 

So far, 2022 has proven more promising. We are starting to get pledges from individuals and companies towards our efforts, and we secured funding from the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) to reimburse us for a portion of the cost of a professionally installed hoophouse. But this hoophouse is going up in mid-August, and we have to have half the funds upfront to move forward with the project.

 

We want to thank Interra Cares Foundation, Waste-Away Group Ltd., Zimmer Biomet, and numerous individuals, but there's a long way to go to raise an additional $10,000 by August 15. We need the help of individuals, companies, and other organizations to reach our goals! Any amount helps, whether big or small.
