Sink the Red with Magnoliah Black

A mutual friend introduced me to Irene back in 2011. I was in the Bay for a visit and he was adamant: “You gotta meet my friend Renie. She’s amazing.” We got ice cream and we clicked. I think the first thing I noticed about Irene was she doesn’t push anyone into anything. She doesn’t have an agenda for people, she just lets everyone live their life. She knows how to steer around conversations that seem to make you uncomfortable. As someone with a history of PTSD, most new people end up doing something that makes me uncomfortable, but not Irene. She gets you and she helps you feel safe. She knows how to be encouraging while still sticking firmly to her personal convictions. She’s an easy person to respect, but she’s also brimming with compassion and empathy. She’s a lot of things I’d like to be if I’m being honest, and if you know her you probably know what I’m talking about.

Irene is an activist. She’s a healer, a community leader, and a bad ass witch. Whenever she gets anything she puts it back toward her people and I don’t think I’ve ever heard her ask for help.  Which brings me to the ask and why I’m doing all this.  Irene needs help, but she’d never tell anyone about it. She got caught up in a system that works to exploit and sink people every day. But if we have anything to say about it Irene will not be dragged down. She needs a little support right now to help her out of a bad situation and if you’re reading this it’s because someone thought you’d understand and be ready to lend a hand.  

Irene is a truly magical human and I would like to work a little magic back to her everyday life.
