Joel Burch died suddenly and tragically on May 20, 2019.
Joel was a beloved member of the film and television production community in Canada. Over a decade-long career, Joel solidified his role as a skilled business affairs executive, a trusted confidant, and a valued friend to many.
Joel was generous with his time and generous with his knowledge. Devoted and diligent, Joel would rarely turn down a request for lack of capacity – Joel worked harder and more effectively than almost anyone I’ve known. That was Joel: more caring for his friends and colleagues than for himself, and there was no one Joel cared for more deeply than his wife Mary Moreau and his three daughters, Beatrice, Esther, and Greta. The girls, aged 6, 3, and 1 will never get to know the capable and accomplished man I knew. Joel spoke often of Mary and the girls – always with love and always overwhelmed with pride. Joel’s family was precious to him, as Joel was precious to us.
Joel died well before his time – far too young and with far too much potential remaining untapped. He has left behind a family that must learn to live without his unwavering support, and without the financial security offered by his inexhaustible will and unlimited capacity for new projects and clients. Joel intended to begin a new career, we are sure it would have brought him joy and made his family proud.
Joel was known well beyond those who worked with him directly. His reputation preceded him – as an honest and hard-working man of integrity and compassion. Joel was slow to ask for help and quick to offer assistance. I am not. I am asking everyone who knew, or knew of Joel, and those of you who work in or around the film and television production community to support Joel’s family in their time of need. Joel also wanted his children to go to University. He believed strongly that education was paramount. The proceeds of this campaign will be used to provide for the immediate needs of Mary and girls and will ensure that Beatrice, Esther, and Greta can go to University and have the opportunities that Joel worked so hard to provide for them. Joel wanted more for his children than he could have wished for himself, a profound sadness of his passing is that he will not be able to deliver that promise for them on his own.
The proceeds of this campaign will be used to fund the Burch Family Trust.
