Bumpe School Latrine Project
Donation protected
The Bumpe School in the town of Bumpe, Sierra Leone, is a partner school of Girls Learn International, a program of Feminist Majority Foundation. In the past, Northern California GLI Chapters have fundraised to complete their solar panel project, a project to purchase and install solar panels to run the school's computer lab and give the girls access to fullfilling their ambitions within STEM.
MESSAGE FROM SCHOOL
Bumpe High School girls do not have doors and proper roofing on their latrine. (see image) This makes it challenging for the girls to take care of menstrual challenges i.e. having privacy to change sanitary napkins or attend to other nature’s call whilst in school. Most of the time, some girls have to walk a mile to find an ideal latrine downtown. These challenging menaces have led to huge deposit of waste in the bush around the school compound. Many girls prefer going to the bush for latrine purposes.
It is our dream to fully rehabilitate (with running water) the bathrooms that were destroyed by the rebels during the 11 years civil war in Sierra Leone.
LONG TERM IMPACTS
A total of 200 girls will have sufficient privacy and an end to disposing waste in bush for the next five (5) years. The school environment will be kept clean and healthy. Also, Bumpe High School girls will be confident to attend school during their period.
COSTS
All in all, the costs of this project costs $1497 (see image for specific costs), however we have decided to raise the goal to $2000 in order to provide the school with funds to purchase feminine hygien products.
Please help us with this project by donating to benefit the lives of these amazing young women! Any contribution, small or large, will help us greatly.
Thank you!
