BumbleBike

Hey, what do you do when you graduate? A crazy cycle pilgrimage to the work of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

We're living at a time when valuing and nurturing the living systems around us is more important than ever. The BBCT work incredibly hard using a scientific approach to understand the challenges and opportunities for bumblebees, work with various reserves and farmers/landowners to put this knowledge into practice and have worked with both the UK and Scottish governments to advise national policy.

So that being said, here's a few ideas of BumbleBike inspired sponsors:

A penny for every kilometre (£11.64) or each mile (£7.23) - if you think I'll get lost why not donate your estimate

A penny for each landowner the trust worked with in a year (£4.00)

£19.89 for the year the short haired bumblebee went extinct in the UK or £20.12 for the year it was successfully reintroduced with help from the trust

£7 for the number of bumblebee species listed by the government as threatened conservation priority species

Let's leave the next generation all the wildlife we get to appreciate today and more.

I'll be posting my route on social media so do join me for a day if I'm passing your way.

More information about Bumblebee Conservation Trust: The Bumblebee Conservation Trust was established because of serious concerns about the 'plight of the bumblebee'. In the last 80 years our bumblebee populations have crashed. Two species have become nationally extinct and several others have declined dramatically. Bumblebees are familiar and much-loved insects that pollinate our crops and wildflowers. We have a vision for a different future in which our communities and countryside are rich in bumblebees and colourful flowers for everyone to enjoy.
