Bull's Horn Beer To Save Water

Donation protected
What’s Happening and Why
Bull’s Horn is excited to offer customers discounted beer as a reward for donations in an effort to help us cover costs this summer to finish our City of Minneapolis required parking lot redo. We are looking for help because we have plans to do a bang up job addressing stormwater runoff issues on our property. We are located in the Minnehaha Creek Watershed Area and near the Mississippi River and Lake Hiawatha. Water quality is a big concern in our neighborhood.

We didn’t want to meet the City of Mpls requirement quickly and on the cheap. If we did, stormwater runoff would end up in the streets and sewer systems that feed our freshwater sources. Stormwater carries pollutants that negatively impact our water quality. While the City of Mpls has given us an extension on the requirement to pave the lot, we are coming to the deadline. That's why we want you to take advantage of discounted beer to help us be good stewards of our land and community!

Having a small footprint is important to us. We have taken many steps to ensure we are a sustainable business. Here are some of the choices we have made, all of which come with extra costs, but are important to the environment.

·      Top of the line hood system that doesn’t turn on unless used and then uses a level of energy based on heat sensed.

·      Solar panels for clean energy production.

·      Recycling and composting program. By composting alone we diverted 21,600 lbs of waste from landfills in 2018. That is the equivalent of taking about 54 cars off the road in greenhouse gas emissions.

The Details
Total Project Cost: $114,000

1) Rain garden to treat parking lot and roof runoff.

2) Two above ground 500 gallon cisterns. A pump will allow for the harvested rainwater to be used for the rain garden and plantings thus conserving potable water.

3) Permeable Pavers at two stalls alongside the cisterns.

4) Concrete Rumble Strip at the entrance of the parking lot to migrate parking lot overflow into the rain garden.

5) Paving the lot.

6) Concrete for patio, garbage enclosure, and building doorways as well as fencing for garbage enclosure.

We have paid $29,000 for the first phase of the project.

We received a $32,000 Natural Resources Opportunity Grant from Hennepin County to help with the project due to its quality in addressing water issues.

Fundraiser Goal: $15k
This will cover the purchase, installation and electrical work for two 500 gallon cisterns as well as one of the permeable paver parking spaces.

We will pay remaining costs.

Remember, you can’t make beer without water!! Two 500 gallon cisterns equals 8,000 pints of beer. So let’s show our love for managing water responsibly and drink some beer!!
