Building Tumaini Children's Home

Tax deductible

PACIFIC NORTHWEST COUPLE SELLS EVERYTHING, MOVES TO KENYA TO RAISE ORPHANS AS THEIR OWN.

This is the story of Horace and Phyllis Leister. Ten years ago they sold their home and belongings in Idaho State and moved themselves and their three children still at home, to Eldoret, Kenya. Like many African nations, Kenya is plagued with poverty, disease, and war. An environment like this produces many kinds of collateral damage, but none as troubling as the horrific conditions in which children are forced to grow up in. Many don’t survive birth. Others survive birth only to be abandoned on the streets, in the fields, latrines, or the garbage dumps. Those orphans who somehow beat the odds and are able to cling to life often face a cruel existence.

UNLESS.

Unless others are moved to action by the belief that we are all children of God, and we all belong to one another, and are willing to extend a hand of hope to these, the most vulnerable population in a hard world. The Leisters have been moved and forever changed by these convictions. They live full time in Eldoret, raising a group of children who were once labeled as orphans. This is a group of children who were once completely alone in the world and forgotten, but have now grown into a loving family. They represent the many different Kenyan tribes who are often at war, now living in peace and love. They live together, learn together, and follow Jesus together. While this may sound like a happy ending, they still need our help!

The Leisters have been raising and teaching 30+ children in makeshift rentals for the past ten years. Though they have made do all this time with a bit of creativity and ingenuity, they have very real need of a place to call home that meets the growing demands of such a large family. Last year they bought land with that vision in mind and now are in the process of building the home these children, and more, will grow up in.

THEY NEED YOUR HELP!

The construction of the home is underway, but they have run out of funds to complete the build. The well is drilled, septic is dug, exterior walls, trusses, and even the roof are up, but there is still much to do. The interior still has to be finished, including electrical, plumbing, flooring, walls, appliances, etc. The amount they need your help to raise is $50,000. Please don't think that any amount is too small - every little bit helps when all of us come together. Let's get this house built so the Leisters can continue sharing the gracious hope and love that Jesus so perfectly showed and taught us, to the children of Eldoret.
