Our Story
The Guelfi Firenze team was founded in 2000 by a group of players and fans of American Football. Quickly after being founded the Firenze team won the the Italian Third Division (2003) a couple of years later won the Italian Second Division (2005). Ever since it established at the top of Italian Second Divison acceding to the playoffs of the tournament in all but one season and often competing at the highest level reaching the semifinals or the final multiple times. During this decade a small group of players led and managed the team who got supported over time by a group of new players and football enthusiasts.
Guelfi 2.0 - New Home and Italian First Division
Since 2015 everything changed within the organization and team. The management of the team (still led mainly by a group of veteran players) decided to make a decisive step forward and got the team into the Italian First Division. At the same time there as been a renovated interest of the team in the Junior teams. The junior program of the Guelfi had been stagnating for a while and the team decided to relauch it starting from the lower level possible: the U13, which eventually ended up winning the national championship - showing great promises for the years to come.
The same year the Guelfi Firenze team heavily invested in a renovation of the facility they had been playing since 2011. This led to the installation of a new turf field that has made the new "Guelfi Sport Center" one of the best facilities for american football in Italy.
On this new field the Guelfi Senior Team ended up with a record of 6-4 the first year in the Italian First Division and lost in the playoffs to a much more experienced team - the Parma Panthers.
In the second season, in 2017, the team avoided relegation ending the season at 2-8. This have been a season of great renovation of the roster: the team who has been still made up of players from the original Guelfi in mid 2000 became drastically younger.
In 2018 the team started to attract more players from outside Florence, and this led to a team that was a mix of young and more experienced players coming not only from Florence. After starting 4-0 the team fell , due mainly to injuries and lack of experience from a still rather young roster, to 4-6 and was eliminated from the playoffs at the first round.
During these years the junior teams grew in number, from 10 players in 2015 to around 40 in 2018 - divided in 3 teams (U13, U16 and U19). As proof of the good groundwork laid down by the team in this area the U13 team won the championship in 2016 (back to back U13) and, more recently the U16 team won the national championship in 2018.
The 2019 Season
The end of the 2018 season with the defeat in the playoffs has been particularly bitter for the Guelfi Firenze who decided to double down for the 2019 season: with the efforts of the management the Team has been able to recruit italian players and import players of great importance improving the roster at every position. Most importantly the team has been able to hire legendary HC Art Briles who brought his enthusiasm and experience to the team. With the new players and coaching staff on board the enthusiasm is high in Firenze and the team started 5-2 in first seven weeks, losing only to last year finalists on the last play of each game.
Our Vision
The Guelfi Firenze team wants to establish as one of the top teams in Italy.
We are focused on the 2019 and beyond: we know that success doesn't come easy. Even harder than having success is to sustain it for a long period of time. Therefore we understand the need to invest in the future of our team.
We want to keep further establishing our team as an important part of the community of the city of Florence. We want to create an environment that is appealing for the fans of American Football in Florence and for all the US citizens that are living in our city and want an experience that brings them closer to their homecountry.
We are going to continue running our team with our values in mind: Family, Pride and Grit. We believe that Football can be an unvaluable experience for all those involved and the best way to develop young men into their best versions of themselves.
Why a crowdfunding campaign
American Football in Italy is growing in popularity, however it still is a rather poor sport: except for few Americans for each team there are no professional players and no one gets rich or famous playing football. You play for passion and for the love of the game and for your teammates.
We have been doing everything we can to sustain the team for 2019 and we don't have resources to invest right now for future growth. We know that winning will set us up for future growth - however the time for investing in the future is now.
Therefore we ask for help to our fans and supporter all over the world, even a small contribution can be extremely useful for our organization.
How are we going to use the funds raised?
We want to improve our facility building a gym for our younger and senior athletes to train at whenever they need.
Our senior team will need this equipment for the last, and more important part of the season. Also it will be extremely useful for the preparation of the next season for the junior teams.
Moreover this will help us grow our team on the field further reducing the gap with the best teams in Italy.
If we will exceed the first goal of the campaign we will invest these resources in other training equipment that can be beneficial to all our organization.
Rewards
For those who contribute we will create a special "Wall of Honor" in our facility and on a dedicated page on our website where we will add all the names of our supporters. We will send to each contributor a special thank from our team as well.
We will continue to work in order to make our fans part of our family and we plan to find new ways to have you more and more involved with our team.

La Nostra Storia
I Guelfi Firenze sono stati fondati nel 2000 da un gruppo di giocatori ed appassionati di Football Americano. Negli anni seguenti la squadra ha velocemente conquistato il titolo della 9 League (2003) e nel giro di due anni è arrivata a vincere il Silver Bowl della seconda divisione (2005).
Fin da allora I Guelfi si sono confermati ai massimi livelli della Seconda Divisione Italiana accedendo ai playoff del torneo in tutte le stagioni tranne una e spesso classificandosi ai vertici del campionato e raggiungendo la finale per altre 4 volte.
Durante questi oltre dieci anni il team è stato gestito da un piccolo gruppo di giocatori, gli stessi che hanno contributo alla creazione della squadra affiancati nel corso del tempo da un nuovo gruppo di giocatori ed appassionati di football.
Guelfi 2.0 - Una nuova casa e la Prima Divisione
A partire dal 2015 ci sono stati grandi cambiamenti in casa Guelfi. Il management della squadra (ancora in mano ad un gruppo di giocatori, principalmente veterani della squadra) ha deciso infatti di fare uno step sportivo decisivo in avanti ed iscrivendo il team alla Prima Divisione Italiana. Nello stesso momento c'è stato un deciso rinnovamento dell'interesse del team nello sviluppo del Settore Giovanile. Il programma del settore giovanile dei Guelfi era stagnante da tempo ed il team ha deciso di rilanciarlo partendo dal più basso livello possibile: l'U13, squadra che - mostrando un grande potenziale per gli anni a venire - finirà per vincere il campionato nazionale di categoria.
Nello stesso anno i Guelfi hanno investito pesantemente nel rinnovare la struttura nella quale sono stati ospitati fin dal 2011. Questo ha comportato l'installazione di un nuovo manto sintetico, ed altri rinnovamenti, che hanno portato il "Guelfi Sport Center" ad essere una delle migliori strutture dedicate al Football Americano in Italia.
Sul campo la stagione del Senior Team dei Guelfi nel primo anno di Prima divisione (2016) è finita con un record di 6 vittorie e 4 sconfitte e con una sconfitta ai playoffs dai Parma Panthers, un team con maggiore esperienza.
Nella seconda stagione, nel 2017, la squadra è riuscita ad evitare la retrocessione malgrado un record negativo di 2 vittorie ed 8 sconfitte. Questa stagione è stata segnata da un grande rinnovamento nel roster: il team che fino a quel momento era composto in larga parte di giocatori che avevano fatto parte della squadra fin dal metà anni 2000 inizia ad includere un numero sempre maggiore di giocatori giovani e giovanissimi provenienti dal settore giovanile.
Nel 2018 la squadra ha iniziato ad attrarre un numero maggiore di giocatori da fuori Firenze, formando così una squadra composta da un mix di giocatori giovani ed altri di maggiore esperienza. Dopo una partenza sprint di 4 vittorie consecutive la squadra, principalmente a causa di una serie di infortuni e un roster mediamente giovane, finisce il campionato con un record di 4-6 ed una veloce eliminazione al primo turno dei playoffs.
Durante questi anni le squadre giovanili sono cresciute in numero, partendo dai 10 giocatori nel 2015 fino ad oltre 40 nel 2018 - divise in tre squadre (U13, U16, U19). Come prova del buon lavoro di base svolto dal team in questo settore la squadra U13 ha conquistato il titolo anche nel 2016 (bissando il successo dell'anno precedente) e, più recentemente, anche il team U16 ha fatto registrare il successo nel campionato nazionale di categoria (2018) in seguito ad una stagione senza sconfitte.
Stagione 2019
La fine della stagione 2018, con la sconfitta ai playoffs è stata particolarmente amara per i Guelfi i quali hanno deciso di rilanciare il progetto sportivo nel 2019: grazie agli sforzi dell'organizzazione la squadra è stata in grado di reclutare forti giocatori italiani e stranieri migliorando il roster in tutte le posizioni. Ancora più importante, la squadra è stata in grado di ingaggiare il leggendario coach statunitense Art Briles.
Con i nuovi giocatori e coaching staff rinnovato tutti sulla stessa pagina c'è molto entusiasmo a Firenze e la squadra ha iniziato il campionato con un record di 5 vittorie e 2 sconfitte , perdendo di misura solo contro le due squadre finaliste dello scorso campionato i Seamen Milano ed i Giants Bolzano all'ultimo secondo di entrambe le partite.
La nostra Vision
Il team dei Guelfi Firenze vuole stabilirsi come uno dei Top team in Italia.
Siamo concentrati sul 2019 ed oltre: sappiamo che le vittorie non sono facili da raggiungere e che una volta ottenuto il successo è ancora più difficile mantenere uno standard elevato per un lungo periodo. Perciò sappiamo che dobbiamo investire sul futuro della nostra squadra.
Inoltre vogliamo continuare a stabilire il nostro team come una parte sempre più importante della comunità della città di Firenze - un punto di riferimento sia per gli appassionati di Football Americano che per tutti i cittadini USA che vivono nella nostra città e vogliono rimanere in contatto con una delle espressioni più genuine dello spirito USA.
Continueremo a gestire il nostro team con i nostri valori fondamentali in testa: Famiglia, Orgoglio e Grinta.
Crediamo che il Football sia una esperienza estremamente di valore per tutti coloro che sono coinvolti, così come la migliore strada per aiutare giovani uomini a diventare la migliore versione di loro stessi.
Perché una campagna crowdfunding?
Il Football Americano in Italia sta godendo di popolarità sempre crescente, tuttavia è uno sport ancora povero: eccezion fatta per alcuni giocatori americani per ogni squadra non ci sono giocatori professionisti e nessuno diventa ricco o famoso giocando a football. Si gioca per passione e per amore dello sport e per i propri compagni.
Abbiamo fatto tutto quello che era possibile per sostenere il team per la stagione 2019 e non abbiamo attualmente le risorse da investire nella nostra crescita futura. Sappiamo che vincere ci aiuterà ad aumentare i nostri ricavi (da sponsor, biglietti etc) - tuttavia il tempo per investire sul futuro è ora.
Perciò chiediamo l'aiuto dei nostri fan e supporter da ogni parte del globo, anche un piccolo contributo può essere estremamente utile per la nostra organizzazione.
Come useremo i fondi raccolti?
Vogliamo migliorare la nostra facility costruendo una palestra per i nostri giocatori grandi e piccoli, in modo da potersi allenare quando ne hanno la necessità.
Il nostro senior team avrà bisogno di questi materiali per l'ultima, e più importante, parte della stagione. Inoltre sarà estremamente utile anche per la preparazione delle prossime stagioni delle squadre giovanili.
Questo ci permetterà di far crescere la nostra squadra sul campo, riducendo la distanza che ci separa dalle migliori squadre in Italia.
Se riusciremo a superare il primo obiettivo della campagna di 5000 €, investiremo le ulteriori risorse in equipaggiamento che possa essere utile per tutta l'organizzazione.
