Burlew's Hurricane Harvey Recovery

Help the Burlew's Heal from Harvey
^ Reunited Post-Harvey (Vicki, Ian, Russ)

As so many of us who know and love Russ and Vicki (and their beautiful kiddos) realize, they are amazing friends and family, and some of the most thoughtful, caring and loving people many of us will ever know.    They are those peopole who are always giving to others.  Now, it's time for us to help them.  Harvey hit them hard, leaving their home with severe damage that will take some time and lots of money to rebuild and restore.

There are so many Harvey stories, but I'd like to share the Burlew's.  Russ, by profession, is a disaster preparedness expert.  He made sure his family and their home was ready - they had water, generators, flashlights and even enough battery powered chargers for their cellphones to last 2 weeks.  Yep, he's that kind of protector.  He was called to work at the area hosptial at the start of the storm, while Vicki and their son, Ian, held down the fort.   Little did they know that Harvey was Hell-bent to change history bringing havoc and severe flooding to their area that had not occurred in over 500 years.   On day 4 of the non-stop rains and rising waters, Vicki and Ian decided that they needed to leave the house and were rescued by neighborhood friends. That's a whole story unto itself (3 dogs, canoes, jetskis, etc.).

While away, Harvey's rains continued and their home was flooded.  Today (8/31), they were able to get back into their house to assess the damage.  It's been overwheming for them, but for those of us who know Vicki and Russ, they quickly began making a plan and taking action.  But, it's an emotional rollercoaster for sure ... so much to be done, so much of their home destroyed and so much money needed.  While I am confident that this will be the story of a lifetime (evenutally), right now, they need their family and friends to rally around them to help them rebuild and show them how much we love and appreicate them.

Please consider donating what you can - even a small amount will make a difference.    They will use the funds initially for demolition, clean-up, repairs, replacement of household (appliances, furniture, etc.) and personal items (day in/day out needs like toilet paper, paper towels, toiletries)  as well as the increased expenses of having to eat out (kitchen won't be in action for a while).

Thank you,
Shelly (friend of the family for 20+ years)

Created by Shelly Lummus, Cumming, GA.   I've known Vicki for almost 25 years through our work at TRW/Experian.  She has been a rock for me so many times during our friendship. Now, it's my turn to be there for her.   She, Russ, Maci and Ian are good people - really good people.  I am creating this funding account to help them get back on their feet quickly.  FEMA will be of some help, but they need our help to support their immediate needs to get through the demolition, repairs and to help sustain their life needs in the coming days/weeks/months.

I have given Vicki and Russ direct access to the account to withdraw funds as we donate.
