Building Kanienkehaka Land Back Language camp

Donation protected
As Kanienkehaka (Mohawk) people, we are actively reclaiming our unceaded territory which is under threat for development and appropriation by the Canadian government .

We have chosen to do so in a manner that is beneficial to both the land our our future generations, by building a land based language camp in the middle of the Lac St. Francis Wildlife Sanctuary, on land that was leased to settlers over a 100 years ago.

As we adapt to the ongoing pandemic, we have chosen to take it upon ourselves to teach our young people language through land based learning and living.; something residential school took away from us as parents was the ability to raise our children the way we see fit. By building the Kanienkehaka Land Back Language Camp, we are now reclaiming our rightful place as our children's natural instructors.

We aim to finish building our schoolhouse for spring time, to be able to house future language classes and workshops, while also serving as a space for parents to homeschool their children.
