Building Community Through Bread

I'm asking for your help to get the space and equipment to bake full-time.
Your donations will help make amazing, rustic artisan bread more accessible, and most importantly, build the infrastructure to start helping people through our social mission.

//-----THE BACKSTORY-----//

You hear the expression "follow your passion" or "follow your bliss". In my heart this has always felt true. The problem was for many years I beat myself up because no matter how many things I tried or how many desires I explored, nothing stuck. Nothing called to my soul so intensely that it felt like my passion.

However, this year something changed. When I finally stopped beating myself up for liking so many things, but not committing or feeling passionately drawn to any of them, it happened. I shifted to a place of openness where it could reveal itself to me. And you know what? It had been there all along. It was bread. I just had to get in the right place to open up to it.

It's said that "what you want, wants you" and with experience I can now see the validity in the statement. When I opened up to my gift of baking insanely good and crusty bread, everything clicked into place and for the first time I felt my passion and through it saw a way to help people and serve in the world.

That might sound weird, huh? Bread and helping people? I swear the dots connect!!

//-----THE VISION-----//
For you see, I envision community and bread is the perfect catalyst to pull us back together. To bring us back to the table. To connect over food. To connect simply. To connect authentically.

Honestly, the beauty and symbolism had been lost on me. It was only recently that I started to understand the instinctual nature of bread and it's ability to create cohesion. Just like yeast and gluten in the dough - it pulls together. It binds.

The final piece clicked into place when I saw how I could use my gift for baking bread as the medium to serve. Now bread and baking are the vehicles I'm using to build a bakery and an apprenticeship program where I can help those who have been scarred by life to heal.

There are people among us that through their life experiences (abuse, trauma, violence, war, etc.) have had their psyches so incredibly shaken that they've lost connection with themselves, their value, their light, and the good they can do in the world. It is my strong conviction that these people are not hopeless. That through love, community, and a shared cause, they can be led back to wholeness.

Through apprenticeship in the bakery, these individuals will learn a marketable trade. They'll work with their hands and be surrounded by a community of uplifting people. Working shoulder to shoulder, day in and day out, we'll connect. Trust will be built. Walls will come down. Hearts will open.

Soon, instead of negativity, anxiety, and fear filling their minds, they'll begin to feel hope and health as they shift to a place of self-love and self-worth.

Initially, the community I'm working with will be Veterans suffering with PTSD.

//-----YOUR CONTRIBUTION-----//
As I mentioned in the video, I've got the heart, soul, and conviction to make this happen. What I need help with are the funds to get into the first space and get the equipment so that I can take on the first apprentice.

The funds will be used in the following fashion:
60% --> lease a space
20% --> a commercial oven
20% --> a commercial mixer

//-----APPRECIATION-----//
Please know that you have my immense gratitude for the support. Additionally, I hope you feel incredible knowing that you'll be contributing to the work of helping people to heal.

I'd love to offer any of the following as a means of saying thank you!

--> a loaf of bread
--> an artisan bread baking class for your family, friends, or colleagues
--> a day in the bakery - come hang out and we'll make some bread together!
--> a start of Glorious (the wild yeast culture that is responsible for all the magic)
--> a Glorious die cut sticker for your car window or the cover of your favorite journal

With love and gratitude!

Leo
