Building a Mosque in Utah (USA)

Tax deductible
The Utah Islamic Center (commonly referred to as UIC) was founded in 2007 to satisfy the needs of the Muslim community on the south side of the valley. We are currently renting a small space (approx. 3500 sq. ft.) located at 9000 South and 235 West in Sandy Utah. The building was created in the early 1980’s and in many cases the basic needs like air conditioning do not function properly. The Muslim community is one of the fastest growing in America, and we no longer have room for day to day activities like school, and Friday prayer. We ask you for your help in gathering the necessary funds to create a Mosque that will truly benefit the Muslims in Utah and our surrounding neighbors.

Our mosque has been integral to our Islamic community as well as its relationship to the larger Utah community. We have been actively creating opportunities to form a stronger whole as we hope our mosque can be a source of unity between the many beautiful cultures, people, and faiths in the valley through shared experiences and dialogue. With our open-door policy, we have had the great joy of welcoming all to events such as “Meet the Muslims,” community dinners, guest presentations, and much more. We have made it a responsibility to provide a place of peace, worship, friendship, and discussion for the entire community and look to continue further in the future.

Now, is a critical time as we have been blessed with the responsibility of presenting the truth of Islam to our nation and holding close to our values. We have now outgrown our humble beginnings and are coming close to our goals in collecting the funds for a new mosque to accommodate everyone. Please join us in this growth.

It's been 10 years since Utah Islamic Center has been founded, what have we accomplished?

· We have bought and paid off the land needed to build our Mosque that we so desperately need.

· We have opened the doors to all other religions and cultures to come to our Mosque and learn more about Islam.

· Through our limited resources, we are continuing to do everything we can to help the refugees that are here in Utah.

· We have invested heavily into our youth by hosting Summer Camp programs and Sunday school classes.

· We provide funeral services for the deceased.

· We are actively involved in our local political action.

How our mosque effects the Salt Lake community:

· Our focus is the youth of our community. Through the limited resources that we have, we have invested heavily into you the youth of our community because they are going to be the ones that will eventually represent us as Muslims.

· We provide events like "Meet the Muslims" for non-Muslims so that everyone can take advantage of our open door policy and learn more about Islam.

· We provide Quran class for those that want to complete reading the Quran, as well as a Hifz program for those that have the intention of memorizing the Quran.

· We host Tafseer class once every week for everyone to come together and have an open discussion about what is being said in the Quran.

· We host an annual food drive, delivering food to more than 1,000 people who are in need.

Why can't we collect the remaining funds to build our Mosque?

The Muslim community in Salt Lake City is a very small - comprising of only 5,000 Muslims. Though our community has opened their hearts and donated generously, we desperately need more funding. Utah is also a low wage state, therefore the donations we receive are not enough to construct this Mosque in a timely manner.
