Having recently worked closely with YMCA Liverpool and Sefton, refurbishing a property for them to provide 24/7 365 care for people with specific complex needs, and seeing first hand how their highly trained staff and support network help some of the most vulnerable people in our society - we have decided to provide some additional support by creating a match funding campaign.
The goal is to build a contemporary learning pod at the Dutch Farm programme in Garston, South Liverpool.
Dutch Farm provides a therapeutic environment that engages YMCA’s service users in meaningful activity thus allowing for the expansion of skills, the production of organic vegetables and the development of creative outlets.
The mission is to engage homeless people in practical and sustainable food related projects that inspire health and well-being and celebrate the diverse nature of communities in Merseyside. With a lot of hard work and commitment they have created a thriving urban farm that has stayed true to their mission.
The farm currently boasts:
A number of raised vegetable beds
A small arts and crafts centre
A trim trail
An orchard and much more!!
The Learning Pod at Dutch Farm will create a unique, safe space for young people and other service users of YMCA Liverpool & Sefton to receive support and guidance in a therapeutic environment. It will benefit people who have been impacted by homelessness, domestic abuse, mental health crisis and people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
Service Users of YMCA Liverpool & Sefton have often experienced significant traumas in their lives and need opportunities to share their experiences and receive support in a safe space, a place where they can learn new skills - life can feel very hectic and chaotic for people and to enable change there needs to be services and facilities that enables people to slow down, feel safe and to reflect on their lives.
The Learning Pod at Dutch Farm will have multi-purpose use and will enable meaningful activities and group activities as well as one-to-one support interventions, in a purpose built Learning Pod that will have landscape views across Dutch Farm, giving a sense of calm, peace and tranquillity that will enable support to be delivered in unique and meaningful way, providing hope for people that their current situation can improve, and then enabling them to identify and learn new skills that will help them progress to a brighter future.
We would be thrilled for any donations towards the project, no matter how small - please share with your contacts to support the campaign - we aim to have this funded, designed and built before spring 2021.
Many thanks for your support
