Build a house for a family in need

Donation protected
Hi friends!

My name is Mary and I originally come from Lyamungo, a rural village in the foothills of Kiliamanjaro.

For a long time now, there has been one family living in the village that I have wanted to help.  Compared to everyone else in the village, their living conditions are much lower.

They live in a simple, one room 'building' made out of mud and cow dung.  This was the traditional style of houses in the village, however everyone else has now moved on to have a proper brick house.   Their toilet (pictured below) is a wooden pole construction, with a few moldy bed sheets hanging around to provide some privacy.  The wooden boards that cover the latrine are slowly rotting to the point where it is dangerous to step on while using the bathroom.

We've just come out of a rainy season and the main 'house' has suffered badly. Mud is falling away from the walls, with the holes being covered with pieces of material and plastic bags.

Unfortunately, this family has no way of being able to afford to build their own house.  The mother is a very hard worker, striving to improve their life for her only son who is 2 years of age.  She only finished school up to primary standard and shortly after that started working on the banana farms.  On a good day, she can earn Tsh5000 (approx. USD$2.50) for labouring all day.  This work is not reliable, depending on the season and availability.  Her husband also works as a labourer but, as is too common in the rural villages, most of his income is spent on the local alcoholic brew.

My dream is to build them one proper outside toilet room, and a simple three room house.  In total this should cost approximately USD$2500.

With the money already raised, we can start construction of the toilet, which is urgently needed.  Then, as I manage to raise the funds we can start to build the house room by room.

Please continue to share and donate to this campaign so that we can complete this dream.  It will make such a difference to the life of this small family.

Pamoja Tunaweza!  Together we can!

Asante sana.

This is the toilet latrine - a wooden structure with bed sheets hanging.  The wooden planks are now rotting, with large gaps between them making it very dangerous for the son to use the bathroom.

With the windows falling apart, there is no security for the few belongings they do have.
The one room of the 'house' with one bed in the corner for the whole family.

As you can see here, they are currently using plastic bags and old material to cover up holes in the walls of the house.  This is the wall of the room in which they all sleep.

This is the 'kitchen' in which the mother cooks, using a pot perched on these three stones above the fire.  She is working hard on a chicken project, so be able to then sell them for extra income.
