Build extra classrooms for children in Tanzania

Hi, we are looking for your support to assist St.Mary's P.S. to build more classrooms. At present, individual classes are full to capacity; 60plus children to one teacher. In Tanzania, the student-teacher ratio in government-led schools average 120:1, hence an infeasible educational system. Some of the challenges are a shortage of classrooms, scarcity of teaching & learning methods, shortage of teachers and low funding for education. Tanzania is one of the world's poorest economies; poverty remains at 49% and corruption continues to be a central challenge. The challenges facing the youth are unemployment, unintended pregnancies, maternal death, gender-based violence and sexually transmitted infections. 34% of children continue into Secondary level and only 27% of girls finish school. 31% of girls are married before they reach 18yrs and 5% before they are 15yrs. St Mary's Ciara P.S. is making a challenging effort to provide a good education for all; it opened in 2018 with 4 classrooms. The school accepts children from different religions; all follow the school's Christian ethics and all are taught in English and Swahili. Your donation will support the school in its endeavour to prepare children to enter the world of work and secure an income for themselves and their families. Four teenagers from Portadown & Maghery will be travelling to Tanzania with Mary Fox at beginning of June. We will be assisting each teacher by providing basic Maths & English plus teaching Art, Music & Sport. The girls will be challenged as the way of life will be very different; daily electricity cuts will limit the hot water supply and internet connection! However, the experience will be rewarding and we hope to inspire the younger children to continue in education as a means of escaping poverty and discrimination. The entire trip is self-funded and so all donations will go directly to the school fund to build extra classrooms....... Thankyou for your support......
