One of the best forms of charity is to build a masjid. The prophet Muhammed gave us a beautiful example by saying “whoever builds a masjid for the sake of allah, like a sparrow’s nest or even smaller, allah will build for him a house in paradise”.
A masjid is at the heart of all local Muslim communities. It provides a place for it’s worshippers to pray and build a relationship with their creator. The role of the masjid is to help people learn more about Islam. It’s the best platform to spread the beauty of our deen. After all, the first thing the prophet did when he entered medinah… the first task… the first challenge… was to settle the establishment of the mosque. This was the first mosque. This was the first government of the muslims. It was the first universal unity of the muslims. With the above description, we come to understand that building a masjid in the dunya, also benefits us in the afterlife, thus reinforcing it’s importance for the muslim ummah.
However, the reality is that so many countries in Africa, don’t have the money and resources for a place to worship Allah. This creates a breakdown in the community and prevents them from being able to not only fully practice their religious beliefs, but also reduces the engagement people have with their neighbours. Now this ramadan we need to break down the divisions between us as a ummah and come together to build a masjid for our brothers and sisters who are less fortunate in Africa. We need to unify.
By donating for this cause, Allah will give you up to 700 times more in return on the day of judgement. Allah says in Surah Al Baqrah, chapter 2, verse 261, “The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed (of grain) which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies (His reward) for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing”. This means in the hereafter you won’t just get the reward for your donation… but it will be multiplied up to 700 times!
