<div>We are raising funds to build a new memorial to remember the 40 men who lost their lives at the Redding pit disaster in 1923.

<div>The disaster was one of the worst in the history of the Scottish coalfield and a devastating event in the life of a small local mining community.  At 5.00am on Tuesday  25th September 1923 an inrush of water flooded much of  No. 23 pit and by the time the rescue and recovery operation was completed in December the bodies of 40 men had been recovered.

<div>We plan to turn the memorial into a living history, by telling the story of the disaster and how it unfolded, to leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

<div>Our project is to install interactive storyboards, coal hutches, miner’s lamps and period statues, enclosed by feature walls and fencing relating to the disaster.
</div>

<div>We plan to have the memorial in place in time for the 100th anniversary of the disaster next September.
