We are, "Launceston and North East Railway". We are a Non-Profit Organization and we are all about saving heritage railway.
We have been active for 10 years now and really starting to get somewhere. We now have a lease on 12.5 klms of railway line that we have saved so far, with more line to come. We are community based, everything we do is to benefit the whole community for now, and future generations so they can experience real train travel, railbugs and much more on a true heritage railway, something you never forget once you have done it.
We are also restoring a train and trailer to run on the track for all to ride on, which is well on its way to being finished.
We have built a 4 seat Railbug, (that's what we are calling them) that you pedal along on an 8klm round trip of railway track.
We are in the process of securing and obtaining all approvals to run them on the track.
The mission is to set up and fund a Railbug venture with 3 Railbugs to start with, and a shed that is big enough to house them and run the whole thing from. This will be the first of its kind in Northern Tasmania and we are in a fantastic location 10mins out of Launceston. This will be available for anyone to ride on when set up, for a small fee, and it is the most incredible experience to ride one of these along a heritage railway track with beautiful scenery.
From this we hope to gain an income which we will sink back into the Railbug venture and also a train (railcar) we are restoring to carry passengers on a genuine heritage train trip.
So far we have done all this with funding we raise ourselves, but to raise this much money the way we have been, will be far too slow and we need to speed this up for the project to happen in a much faster time frame.
