Buehner Fund - Pancreatic Cancer

Donation protected
Many of you know my friend Keith Buehner.  Some are even lucky enough to call Keith a friend.  I met "The Captain" sometime around 1997 while on a goose hunting trip with his brother, Kyle.  I've been friends with the Captain Keith ever since.  I've enjoyed watching his family grow and see him thoroughly enjoy his friends and family.  Keith's the type of guy who woud give the shirt off his back for a friend, family member, or even a complete stranger.  Unfortunately at this time, it's The Captain who needs our help.

In early August 2017, Keith was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.   In the time since, he has been through a multitude of tests, medical review board, and even exploratory surgery and biopsies.  The final diagnosis shows a Neuroendocrine Tumor in his pancrease.  Cancer has also been detected in his lymph nodes outside his pancrease.  The type of tumor is consistent with only 5% of pancreatic cancer patients.  The good news is this gives Keith a 60% chance of survival of 4 years or more.

While still awaiting some test results for a comprehensive treatment plan to begin, Keith is already planning a 6-month course of chemotherapy intended to shrink the tumor.  After chemo, doctors plan to perform a 12-hour surgery to remove the tumor.  This alone will require a 10-12 day stay at OHSU.  Those of us that know Keith, know he is strong and can handle the fight.  He is ready to kick some cancer ass!

Here's the bad news...Keith does not have health insurance.  Being self-employed, Keith and his family do not qualify for any Obamacare subsidies.  With escalating health insurance costs, Keith, like thouands of others, was forced to choose to provide for his family rather than pay out of pocket for medical insurance.

With nearly $40,000 in medical bills just to this point, the estimated addidtional $200,000 in treatment costs is crushing a family that should be focused on health rather than finances.  The ask and the urgency of this request is quite accute.  Each procedure and test requires a deposit (typically $1000 or more).  By your contribution to this campaign, you can help alleviate the finacial crisis and help the family focus on treatment, wellness, and quality of life.

Your consideration is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
