What? Fund shrinks? How crazy is that? They make enough money! They get all that insurance! What's the deal here?
Here's the deal. We are not ordinary shrinks. We are psychoanalytic candidates, yes, psychoanalytic candidates---advanced students of psychoanalysis with at least four years of post baccalaureate training in psychoanalysis. Yes, psychoanalysis, the therapeutic modality that effects real psychic change. We are change makers. How? Because we help resolve unconscious conflicts so that you can have the life you want. We are students of the unconscious---that primal cauldron of wishes that we can't see that makes us tick, and makes us tick badly sometimes. We study for at least eight years under a personal analysis so that we can help you without messing with you.
We operate a small psychotherapy service under the auspices of our school, the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis. We serve very interesting populations,
and work in ways that are not common in the psychotherapy world. We work with many professionals and other individuals who appreciate confidentiality, rather than the compromises required by insurance companies. (We don't take insurance). We work psychoanalytically with couples, families, and children. We work to find a fee that both parties agree on as germaine to our goal of helping people get what they want. We want both the time and the fee to be mutually agreed upon. We also don't dictate frequency. Some people come once a month; some come twice a week. In the beginning period, people often like to experiment with what is best for them. Working this way also enables us to serve the "underserved", meaning people who either couldn't ordinarily afford or know about the advantages of psychoanalytic treatment. We work with psychosis. We work with schizophrenia. We work with the addictions and those with post-traumatic stress. Our emphasis on the wishes of the patient allows us to reach a population that traditional treatments have found difficult.
But we NEED MONEY!
Shrinks are bad at publicity. We need help.
Most people don't know about us. We are one of Boston's best kept secrets. We need better publicity. We would like to hire a part time outreach person to go into group homes, schools, addiction centers, and doctors' offices to spread the word about our services. We need money to advertise on NPR, maybe a subway poster, and to better use all the advantages of Social Media. We would like to be able to reach veterans and people who might not even think of getting "talking" help.
We also need money to be able to provide supervision support for therapists who work for $25/session or less.
At the moment there are thirty therapists here ( speaking Farsi, French, German, Russian, Italian, Korean, Portugese, Swedish, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Latvian---and English). We would love to expand. Our waiting list is less than one week.
We are hoping to raise $25,000 in order to begin this expansion. We are frantically baking brownies. Please help us.
We are a non-profit. Your contribution is tax-deductible.
