As many of you already know, about a week ago around midnight our dog Buck was hit by a car and sustained some major injuries. His left femur was fractured and required surgery to put a pin and plate in along with sustaining internal injuries. Much to our dismay the driver who struck Buck did not stop, beep the horn, call the police, or do anything to let us know. Buck survived and is on the road to recovery but the accident could not have come at a worse time. My father has been recovering from his 4th open heart surgery in the last 1.5 years and also got an infection from this last surgery. He had been in the hospital and an in-patient facility for over 40 days and was set to come home in a few days when Buck was hit. The hardest part of all of this was not being able to tell my father what happened because we did not want to worry him or depress him while he was dealing with his own recovery. They are both home now and recovering together, but the medical bills are piling up. Bucks surgery and medical expenses have already eclipsed $10,000 and we are still uncertain what everything will cost with my father when everything is said and done. I know my parents are not the kind of people to ask for any help, but the harsh reality is like most people we do not have that kind of money lying around. I'm asking that people donate what they can and help us during these trying times, but to not feel bad about being unable to donate because they are going through their own financial hardships. From Buck and our family we are forever grateful for all of the support we have received.
