BUCKS for BENNETT

Hi !I am fundraising for a wonderful family, Carlie and Nick Ryken & their son Bennett.

Three year old Bennett was diagnosed with a rare auto immune disorder where his body is producing an antibody that attacks and scars different parts of his brain. During his first bout in November of 2022, he was in the ICU at Children’s Hospital for 7 days after he suffered multiple seizures. He was treated and released but the disease was still active and he woke up one morning in December unable to move his right leg. He was readmitted to Children’s Hospital for a second time where they were able to treat him and he regained the use of his right leg. The neurology team that is working on Bennett’s disease believes monthly IV IG infusions are his best bet at beating this disease and preventing a relapses in symptoms. Unfortunately, Bennett has not been able to receive these treatments due to our insurance company refusing to cover the treatments. This has landed Bennett in the hospital a third time because he woke up complaining about not being able to see. He developed a new spot on his left optic nerve that has greatly impaired his vision. We are continuing to fight the insurance company alongside his care team at Children’s but he needs to receive these treatments in order to heal the damage that has already been done and to prevent any more in the future. We believe in the power of prayer and please ask that you would take the time to prayer for our baby boy and for the insurance company to approve this necessary treatment.
