Buckets and Bags of Love is a non profit organisation in Kwangwanase, KwaZuluNatal, South Africa. This organisation (a group of people from a church) started in 2013 with handing out buckets with food and schoolbags with supplies to the less fortunate in our communitie(s). In the buckets/tubs are basic food and supplies such as; flour, sugar, salt, porridge, rice, seeds (to grow vegetables), toothbrushes, toothpaste, candles, matches and much much more.
We hope to hand out bigger buckets this time, like we did during the lockdown.
When Buckets and Bags of Love started families needed to provide their children with school supplies. Now schools and the government are providing the children with school supplies, so this year we will only hand out buckets/tubs with food. This will happen just before the holidays, this way the poor families can have something special as well.
The organisation is working very close with the hospital, local clinics and care workers to decide who qualifies for a food parcel. The food parcels are going to people/families who really really need it, families that are really struggling in life.
Mostly grandparents who are taking care of their grandchildren, because their parents died. Or kids taking care of their siblings for the same reason. Some people are really really sick. We make sure the parcels are going to people who really in need.
Buckets have been handed out since 2013;
2013 = 72 buckets
2014 = 150 buckets and 150 schoolbags
2015 = 250 buckets and some schoolbags
2016 = 200 buckets and some schoolbags
2017 = 200+ buckets and 200 schoolbags
2018 = 175 buckets and some schoolbags
2019 = 204 buckets and 150 schoolbags
We held an extra fundraising this year, with this fundraiser we were able to hand out over 400 big food parcels.
We really need help. Life was already very difficult for lots of people in our communitie(s) and the lockdown (over 6 months already) isn’t making it any easier. We're also worried about a second wave, so we really need your help
We would love to hand out atleast 200 food parcels to families in need.
A food parcel will cost 31 euro / 37 US dollar / 28 pounds / 600 rand. All the money we raise will go towards the parcels, the whole project is done by volunteers.
We will be delivering buckets on Saturday the 21st of November and Wednesday the 16th of December.
