In December of 2015 my wife Sherrie was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a Mastectomy and lymph node removal , 6 months of chemo , 2 months of radiation , we thought we had it licked.
In this time period we made a bucket list of what we wanted for memories. It boiled down to seeing all the beauty this country has to offer. Sherrie would like to put her foot in the Pacific ocean, see Mt. Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, the Redwood Forest, the Florida Keys. We thought that we had a few years to make a trip happen and have been outfitting ourselves to camp most of the way to save on expenses.
In may of 2017 we got the bad news that the cancer returned and metastasized into bone cancer. This is terminal and our time to make this trip became more urgent. Now we learned in March of this year that the cancer has spread to her soft tissue. We now realize this trip needs to be made this summer. We plan to leave by the end of July this year.
Funds needed are to pay for gas/fuel, camp cites, food and attractions. We have figured on taking 10 weeks to do this to make it as easy physically as possible. We want it to be as relaxing as possible.
Sherrie has not been physically able to work since she had the mastectomy and I have missed a lot of work to help and support her through this brutal ordeal.
It truly humbles me to be here with my hand out. Given just a little more time I would not be here looking for financial help. I have purchased a camper van and outfitted us to make the trip. We also have all other financial obligations met while we are gone.
We are very frugal and make the most of everything we have. This is not a luxury vacation at all except that we can have a quality vacation with each other.
Any funds that are not spent will be donated to a breast cancer related charity .
I feel so helpless in that there is nothing I can do to fix or delay what my wife is going through and now I just want her to have this trip of a lifetime.
