Do you believe in fateful friends, star-crossed lovers or things that were just meant to be? Meet Bubby. He is a puppy at Project 2 Heal in Waxhaw, NC who has been waiting for a match to a Veteran or a child in need.
One day, Charlie received an email from a devoted but disappointed Dad. He shared that he had flown from breeder to breeder searching for the perfect companion dog for his son, Will.
Will is an active, fun-loving seven year old with Down Syndrome. After losing his companion dog Lucky to cancer, Will's family began to notice a change in his behavior and soon realized his need for another dog was great. Sadly, the puppies Will's Dad had met so far didn't connect.
Charlie, the founder of Project 2 Heal, knew immediately that he had the perfect companion for Will. Will's Dad flew to Charlotte to meet Bubby and their connection was immediate. Bubby's gentle, kind, affectionate and intelligent personality was exactly what the relieved father had been searching for! With beaming excitement he shared that Will's family has always called the boy Bubby and the two fateful friends are also connected by the same birthday! Bubby and Bubby will forever jointly celebrate all of their birthdays together on March 9th.
Bubby is ready and willing to serve his new friend but first he will need eye surgery due to a condition called Ectropian eyelids. This condition can allow debree to enter the eyes and can cause frequent eye infections. Project 2 Heal is a charitable organization that provides dogs for veterans and children with special needs at no cost. They know the connection with people and dogs is immeasurable. In keeping with the values of Project 2 Heal, the hope is to be able to provide Bubby with this eye surgery to prevent Will's family from incurring any future health expenses related to the ectropian eyelids.
The surgery cost is approximately $1500 but any funds received exceeding this amount will help to support the many future puppies that will be given to other children with special needs and veterans.
