"Show me what it's like to love and be loved by people in circumstances so different from my own."
That was my first prayer on my first trip to Haiti. It was my first mission trip. My first time being so convicted and challenged by God. My first time falling in love. That was the beginning. Today, I've been blessed to be in Haiti 10 times over the course of a year... and it's still just the beginning...
God is, again, pulling my heartstrings to return. But, this time, for a different mission... Orphan care.
If you look at the picture I've posted, you will see 3 beautiful girls. The 2 on the right are orphans (whose parents were killed during the earthquake). I've met them during my first trip in 2010, loved them from the moment we met, and have since, been keeping in touch with them every time I go to Haiti. I've always called them, "my daughters"--JLise (6 years old) and Deuna (8 years old). I pray for them and give them financial support whenever I could, and throughout these years, have prayed for the process of adoption to begin.
Recently, I was informed that JLise was killed... My heart was completely shattered--I've lost my baby... But, God truly works in mysterious ways. In the midst of this pain, He has opened my eyes to the sense of urgency of taking care of these children who are parentless... This is the moment. All I have is now-- to follow Christ's guidance to go and love the unloved.
This is just the beginning. October 2014, I strive to serve in orphanage organizations in Port au Prince, and God willing, this will be catalyst for something bigger.
Upon this time, more than anything, I ask for your prayers for the people of Haiti and the work to be done there. Please, pray for JLise, Deuna and the other beautiful orphans in Haiti--help them to know that they are loved... Please, pray for discernment, wisdom and for me to follow in the way of love. And beyond your prayers, if you feel led to support me and this mission financially, I thank you. Any/all donations are much appreciated.
**The cost will go toward: airfare, transportation, food/board, and materials for the orphanages**
